I created an imovie and compared real media products to my final opening product and discussed in what ways they are similar and how i have ensured that my media product uses, develops and challenges codes and conventions of these media products.

I created a timeline which states how long each of my filming sections will take e.g the establishing shot and car entering through the gates will take 15 seconds

Preliminary Task

Here is my preliminary task I did with a few other class mates. Although I edited this version on my own. In our Preliminary Task we had to include the 180 degree rule, cross cutting to show conversation between two people and a door had to be opened. I edited in a fade to black at the ending of the clip to indicate an ending and finishing it with a title and complimenting non-diegetic sound. I edited in a non-diegetic which sounds diegetic to make the corridor sound busy to give a clear indication that it is in a school corridor. I cut out various parts of the clips. For example I cut out the start of the clip because you could hear my class mate who was filming it talking.

Previous ideas for film plot

I wrote down some ideas for my action zombie horror film in order to help me decide which plot i wanted to go with.

    

Focus Group

I got 3 participants to take part in my focus group where i asked them some questions. 1. What themes do you expect to see in an action zombie horror film? 2.What would you expect an action zombie horror opening to be like? 3. What would you not like to see in an action zombie horror film? 4. What iconography would you expect to see in an action zombie horror opening? By doing this focus group it allowed me to collect information off my target audience where they were free of speech and able to say what they truly thought in response to the questions i asked them. By doing this it helped me in planning my opening and plot idea for my film. As they explained what they liked to see and what they would expect to see and what they wouldn't like to see in an action zombie horror opening so i can apply this knowledge to my work and ideas.

Planning for my opening

Today i planned my final idea for my opening. I included the mise en scene, camer movement, camera shots, editing and how enigma would be created. I included how i will introduce the characters to the film during the opening, the setting up of the plot and the mood and tone of the non diegetic sound that will be used.

Today i planned out my synopsis for a broader picture of my film in order to help me construct my planning of my opening. Thinking about The equilibrium, Disruption, Recognition of Disruption, Attempt to repair Disruption and New Equilibrium in my film plot.

Trailers

I had to upload the trailers as i couldn't embed the openings from the sites i watched them on, apart from the 'Dawn of the Dead' opening. But the trailers give you an indication to what the film genre is about.

Today we discussed what preferred genre we would like to base our opening of a film on. I listed all of the key things to research. what would i research? where would i go to find my research? Why should i ensure that i research my preferred genre? And what problems may occur whilst researching Action Horror genre films. I did this to ensure that my research is effective and so it helps me in producing my planning and filming of my Action horror opening.
